Hundreds of elders, women and youths from the three senatorial districts of Edo State led by the former Deputy Senate President, Senator Albert Legogie, yesterday, stormed the streets of Benin, expressing their support for the state Governor, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor.

The group under the aegis of the People United to Save Edo State, later converged at the state Government House, where they explained that they were there to convey their "profound solidarity", on the verdict of the Election Petition Tribunal which declared the Governorship candidate of the Action Congress (AC), Comrade Adams Oshiomohle, winner of the April 14, 2007 Governorship election in the state and the death of the state Commissioner of Information, Mr. Calus Enoma.

In his address, Senator Legogie described the death of Commissioner Enoma as "tragic, sudden and premature", adding that the death is a loss not only to you (the Governor) and your government, but also to the entire people of the state. "So we condemn in superlative terms, this dastardly and cowardly act of some faceless criminals who have cut short the life of this promising young Edo son. The seeming triumph is at best pyrrhic and a very temporary one. We believe that the Almighty God who sees every thing will unmask the killers," he stated.

Describing the judgment of the Tribunal as a travesty of justice, "and a grand conspiracy designed, orchestrated and executed by those enemies of Edo State", Senator Legogie asserted that "judgment was infested with contradictions and inconsistencies and it was orchestrated by those who have held the state down all these years, and milked her to a state of stupor as evidenced by glaring underdevelopment and endemic poverty still afflicting the majority of our people." Responding, Governor Osunbor stated that the death of Enoma was a very sad development that was never anticipated, stressing the need for indigenes of the state to continue to pray for the repose of his soul while the report of police investigation into his death was being awaited".

Commenting on the judgment, the Governor disclosed that "I have already filed an appeal. After some delay, I can also confirm to you that the certify true copy of the judgment has been made available to me. Our lawyers are working and we are very optimistic that we are going to win at the Appeal court. I have come to provide good governance to the people of the state and we will not be deterred by this temporary set back.

"Those who held Edo state down for eight years want to come back through the back door. But this is not possible. You voted for me, and kind of manipulation can change the voice of the people. We have the lawyers that will do it and God will surely see us through" he stated.
