Witnesses have accused the police of not acting quickly enough to save the life of a man stabbed to death at the weekend.

The 36-year-old photographer was seen sprawled on the street in Tsolamosese on Saturday morning as a large crowd gathered.

Having sustained several knife wounds over his body, including a deep cut to his stomach that exposed his insides, he was declared dead at the scene.

A 23 year-old-man is already in prison awaiting trial in connection with the murder.

The cause of the conflict is not yet known, but Onkemetse Tawana of Mogoditshane Police confirmed it was not a drunken brawl.

According to one witness, the victim ran into her yard and tried to hide, but the attacker pursued him.

The violent incident has left residents of Tsolamosese in the Kweneng district angry with police officials, who they say did not attended to the case promptly.

"Had the police acted swiftly and rushed him to hospital, we could be telling a different story now," said Magola Rammoni who arrived at the scene just after the attack.

According to witnesses officers waited for the killer in their patrol car next to the dying man instead of rushing him to hospital.

Witness Kamogelo Mmaki asserted that police did not pursue the killer, but waited for a woman relative to find him and bring him back to the scene of the crime.

"I cannot tell how long that man lay in that state, but it was long enough for him to have reached medical attention in time."

Assistant Superintendent Tawana has denied the accusations. "Anyone can say anything, but they should state the exact time they reported and the exact time of our arrival at the scene. The truth is the case was reported and we attended to it," he said.

Names have been withheld pending police investigations.
