Namibia: Okahandja Beauties Win Khomas League

Windhoek — Okahandja Beauties won the Khomas Women's Football League title for the second year in a row after thrashing their opponents over the weekend.

On Saturday Beauties beat Unam Bokkies 10-0 and on Sunday they beat Poly Babes 11-1 and Osire Angels 2-0 to go nine points clear at the top of the log.

Although there is still one round of league matches remaining and second-placed Rehoboth Queens have a match in hand, Beauties are too far ahead and cannot be caught anymore.

On Saturday they were far too strong for Unam, as Stella Williams and Emma Awises each scored a hattrick, while Salome Iyambo (2), Bianca Fredericks and Meryl Polster added the other goals.

On Sunday they were once again in a class of their own against Poly Babes, with Awises scoring four goals, Bianca Fredericks and Stella Williams three each and Meriam Swartbooi one goal.

Elencia Gabes scored Poly Babes' solitary goal.

Beauties also beat Osire Angels who failed to turn up and now lead the log with 36 points from 13 matches.

QUEENS, NDF FIGHT OUT FOR SECOND PLACE Rehoboth Queens remained second on 27 points after beating Poly Babes 5-3 on Saturday.

Juliana Skrywer scored a hattrick and Levina van der Berg two goals while Poly Babes replied through Jackey (2) and Elencia Gabes (1).

Queens are on 27 points after 12 matches but are facing stiff competition for the second place from NDF Cheetahs who won both their matches over the weekend.

On Saturday, NDF beat Ramblers 5-1, with Helena Iipinge scoring a hattrick and then beat WCE 4-1 with Maureen Cooper scoring a brace.

NDF Cheetahs are now just a point behind Queens on the log and can still finish second, if they beat Okahandja Beauties this coming weekend.

Meanwhile, the women's football season will come to a close on April 19 and 20 when the National Championships take place in Windhoek.

The top three teams in the Khomas Women's Football League and a regional invitational team will battle it out for the national title.

Okahandja Beauties are the defending champions after they beat Rehoboth Queens 2-1 in last year's final.
