The World Health Organisation (WHO) representative to Angola's central Bie province, Nunes Musse, Monday, in Kuito, appealed to the society for a major engagement in the prevention of the impact of climatic changes.

The official said so in the light of the celebrations of the World Health Day, April 7, stressing that the protection from climatic change is not only a Government and State concern, but also an all society's, with the purpose of preventing tragic developments within the communities.

The WHO representative defended as well the need for improved supply of drinking water to the populations, the reinforcement of awareness and control of infected diseases, the increase of vaccination programmes for children aged 0-5 years, as well as the betterment of medical assistance.

According to the source, these actions could enable the prevention of diseases and death among the population, especially within the most vulnerable groups of the populations.

"This can also contribute to the social and economic progress of the communities," he added.

The official appealed to governmental and non-governmental institutions to invest more and more in the improvement of sanitary conditions, namely, the increase of hospitals and their respective equipment, as well as training of staff in the health sector.
