Monrovia — The former Head of Pediatrics at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center, Dr. Roseda E. Marshall-Ochillo has observed that the constant use of power generators was a serious threat to human lives in the country.
She noted that there is a need for government to provide electricity in every part of the city because generators were posing health hazard to ordinary citizens.
Dr. Marshall-Ochillo made the assertion Monday at programs marking the observance of World Health Day in Bentol City, Montserrado County.
The medical practitioner challenged government to set rules and regulations to protect the environment from the constant use of electric generators to avoid the adverse effects on human beings.
'Climate change is worldwide and dealing with its effects in terms of prevention and effective adaptation will require the expertise of governmental agencies, private sectors, and international organizations,' she said.
According to her, the aims and objectives of World Health Day 2008 were to catalyze public participation in the global campaign to protect health from the adverse effects of climate change.
She further noted that it is also aimed at creating awareness and public understanding of the global and locally relevant health consequences of climate change.
The theme of this year's WHO day is 'protecting health from climate change.'
The observance of the Day held in Bentol City brought together officials of government, and students.
World Health Day is celebrated on April 7 of each year to draw worldwide attention to subject of major importance to global health.
