Ninety eight land-mined and trapped fields with several explosive devices located in different zones of the central Bié province, will be cleared off this year by operators associated with the de-mining operation based in the region.

The local coordinator of the Provincial Inter-sectorial Commission of De-mining and Humanitarian Aid, António Gomes da Conceição Gonçalves, told this to ANGOP while planning the de-mining activities to be carried out this year.

According to him, the de-mining operation will be conducted by the National De-mining Institute (INAD), the British NGO "The Hallo Trust" and by the personnel of the Angolan Armed Forces (FAA).

Meanwhile, in 2007 the operators cleared off some 28 fields in an area of 730,570 metre squares, across the province, said the source, adding that 5,471 assorted explosive devices were removed and destroyed, including 205 anti-tank landmines, 39 anti-personnel landmines, among others.
