Luanda — Parliament speaker Roberto de Almeida defends exchange of experiences, concerted ideas to strengthen Angola/Benin ties

The speaker of Angolan National Assembly (Parliament) Roberto de Almeida, Tuesday here affirmed that the knowledge of mutual experiences, regular interchange and concerted ideas between Angola and Benin are key premises for the strengthening of bilateral political relations.

According to the parliamentarian, these premises constitute an incentive towards the economic cooperation and development of cultural relations between the two people, linked by the traditional ties of friendship.

Roberto de Almeida, who was speaking at a session served to welcome the president of the West African nation of Benin, Boni Yayi, expressed the willing of the National Assembly for the reinforcement of relations with its Beninese counterpart, to whom he saluted for its engagement in defence of peace and democracy.

The Angolan MP focused his speech on historical ties that unite the two countries, dating back from the liberation struggle against the respective colonial regimes, as well as the common challenges they both face.

"The historical course taken by King Behanzin, in Benin, or by Queen Jinga, in Angola, marked the exemplary courage and bravery to resistance opposed by our peoples against the colonial power", said the leader of Angolan Parliament, who stressed the moral and diplomatic support received from Beninese authorities.

"Today, our two peoples are united in the battle for peace, justice and stability of our continent, in the fight against poverty in favour of progress and development" he added.

The speaker of Angolan Parliament believes that the trip of the president of the West African country of Benin will contribute for a greater strengthening of fraternal cooperation and friendship between the two countries.

The participation of Boni Yayi in the solemn session dedicated to him was the highest moment of official visit that he is carrying out to Angola, at the invitation of his local counterpart José Eduardo dos Santos.
