Windhoek — The Bank Windhoek Festival on Monday donated N$35000 towards the 56th annual Wika Festival currently underway in the capital.
Chris Diemer, Bank Windhoek's chief information officer, handed over the money to executive members of the Wika committee.
"Bank Windhoek is well-known for our support of culture and the arts. This is evident in the fact that the bank has received a winning Golden Arrow Award for doing a lot for arts and culture in Namibia," Diemer said.
The 2008 Wika Festival, with its roots in Germany, is this year staged under the theme, 'Wenn nicht jetzt - Wann dann?'
"Although Wika might be seen as a time when people can let their hair down and enjoy the lighter side of life, Bank Windhoek believes that Wika is an inseparable part of the culture of this country. Of course, we also believe that all work and no play will make Jack a dull boy," he said.
A German band, Happy Sound Orchestra, will grace this year's Wika.
"Bank Windhoek's commitment to the arts and culture is to ensure the continuation of the diverse cultures in Namibia. By understanding and experiencing other cultures we all learn from each other to make Namibia a better nation. The bank tries to get involved with all sectors of the community and we have a long-standing relationship with Wika. We are hoping for yet another successful Wika and I wish the organising committee the best of luck," he said.
