Angola: Social Welfare Minister Reaffirms Government's Commitment to Children

Mbanza Kongo — Angola's Social Welfare minister Joao Baptista Kussumua Tuesday in Luanda reaffirmed the ngagement of the Government in creating conditions towards children well-being.

Speaking to the press alongside a working meeting with local authorities, minister Kussumua assured the accomplishment of activities intended to address children concerns as a priority to the national agenda concerning the article 30 of the Law in force in the country.

Thus, he said, his Ministry gathered 16 other ministries and organised held the National Forum on Protection and Development of Children in 2004.

Commenting on the plan, Joao Baptista Kussumua said that in 2005 there was the revision of earlier decisions and the confirmation of other measures intended to solve children's problems.

In 2007 there was a reassessment of the contents of the 10 commitments issued in 2004.

After that, he added, "we suggested that one more commitment should be added that is on the sustainability of the projects and programmes towards children, under the State budget.

According to him, one of the goals of his visit to northern Zaire province is to explain to the local authorities the content of each commitment and make them practical to benefit the children.
