The chairman of the Angolan Olympic Committee (Coa), Gustavo da Conceiçao, Tuesday was awarded in Beijing (China) a trophy of merit from the Association of National Olympic Committees (ACNO), Angop learned.

The ceremony was chaired by ACNO's chairman, Mario Vasquez Ranã, of Mexico, in the presence of the chairman of the International Olympic Committee, Jaques Roggee, representatives of 205 National Olympic Committees and 28 international federations with the Olympic programme.

Gustavo da Conceiçao is the first Angolan sports official to get such a trophy, awarded to him for his brilliant career as an athlete and captain of the national team of basketball, as well as sports officials serving his country, the African continent and the world.

Another more than 20 Olympic officials received the award that is the highest of the Olympic Committee and awarded every two years, during an assembly following proposals from their respective Olympic committees.

The event was witnessed by over 700 sports officials from all over the world that attended in China, on April 07-09, the XVI general assembly of ACNO.
