Liberia: 'Take Your Jobs Seriously', A Liberian Contractor Tells His Countrymen

9 April 2008

Monrovia — A Liberian contractor, currently involved in the construction of modern housing units for dedicated employees of Firestone Liberia, is calling on his fellow compatriots to take their assigned contracts seriously.

The General Manager of the New Attitude Engineering and Construction Company Inc., Mr. G. Andrew Kollie said it's necessary for Liberian contractors who form part of the reconstruction drive of Firestone to perform with high degree of commitment because by doing so they would be paving the way for future assignments.

He noted that the Liberian firms are also using the opportunity from Firestone to provide jobs for other Liberians. "The awarding of contracts to Liberian-owned construction firms is not only benefiting the contractors alone, but we give jobs to our fellow citizens who are unemployed." Mr. Kollie averred.

According to Mr. Kollie, Firestone Liberia has placed confidence in Liberian construction engineers; this is why the company continues to hire the services of Liberian-owned construction firms to participate in its initiative to provide modern housing facilities for thousands of its dedicated employees.

The Liberian construction engineer who was speaking at a construction site in Harbel on Monday, March 31, 2008, where several modern housing units are being built in continuation of the reconstruction program of Firestone Liberia, pointed out that "the initiative of Firestone Liberia is in direct support of the Liberianization Policy."

Mr. Kollie expressed gratitude to the Management of Firestone Liberia for its continuous support to the growth and development of Liberian-owned construction firms through the awarding of contracts to them as a means of strengthening their capacities.

The New Attitude Engineering and Construction Company Inc., has constructed several housing units for the employees of Firestone Liberia at Divisions 26, 40, 16 and the Carter Community.

"These modern housing facilities will benefit employees and their families; and my only appeal to the occupants is to see the buildings as their own." The New Attitude General Manager asserted.

He described the reconstruction effort of Firestone Liberia as "a venture in the interest of both the nation and its people because according to him, it contributes to the developmental process of Liberia and its citizens.

"Mr. Kollie further pointed out that Firestone Liberia needs to be encouraged by all well-meaning Liberians for the huge capital investment it is making in the country in the areas of education, health, housing, accelerated replanting and the provision of job opportunities for jobless citizens and residents alike.
