The Windhoek Afrikaans Private School [WAP] travelled to Stampriet, about 60km east of Mariental, over the past weekend to play the formidable team of Elnatan Private School in the inaugural FNB Classic Clashes matches on home turf.
"Elnatan Private School, enjoying home-ground advantage with a huge turn out of the Stampriet community of teachers, parents and learners, walked away as undisputed winners with a score-line of 71-0.
It must be said though that Windhoek Afrikaans Private School, is only 13 years old now and it is the first year that WAP was able to prepare and send their first rugby team on the field for a competitive rugby match against their rival school," Dixon Norval, FNB's head of strategic marketing and communications said.
"The Windhoek Afrikaans Private School stood their ground, despite the pressure of the strong and tested team of Elnatan," he added.
Elnatan had the upper hand in all departments of the game and the backline of the Windhoek Afrikaans Private School could not withstand the continuous onslaught from the Elnatan forwards which resulted in tries streaming in like water of the Hardap Dam when the sluices are opened.
Elnatan had a well-organised team with a game plan to exert tremendous pressure on WAP with fast-paced running rugby, which demanded a high level of fitness from any team.
Norval said that despite the defeat, Arend Brink of the Windhoek Afrikaans Private School played outstanding rugby which earned him the Man of the Match Award, which he shared with Meyer Moolman of Elnatan Private School.
Both Brink and Moolman received special FNB Classic Clash Rugby balls as a token of commitment and loyalty to the game.

The FNB Classic Clash, between the first rugby teams of the Windhoek Afrikaans and Elnatan Private Schools, formed part of the FNB Sports Day consisting of rugby, netball and hockey games in all age groups.
The day was a resounding success with excellent attendance by learners, teachers and parents as members of the public.
The FNB Classic Clashes has set a high standard for the forthcoming Clashes to be arranged by other schools.
