Monrovia — After participating in an international training course, 25 coaches of the Inter-School Sports Association (ISSA) have been certificated in the country.
The 25 coaches benefitted from a course sponsored by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Chief Festus Adeboye Onigbinde of Nigeria, a FIFA coaching instructor, served as course director.
The course ran from March 24 to 30, 2008 with 25 coaches from ISSA and 5 from 3rd division teams of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), of which ISSA is an affiliate.
The coaches received their certificates at the during the closing ceremony held at the headquarters of the Liberia National Olympic Committee (LNOC) on Benson Street. The program was attended by officials of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, LNOC and that of the LFA.
Twenty-three of the coaches were from Montserrado County and two came from Margibi County and Grand Bassa County.
From Brewerville, schools invited were Lott Carey Mission, Ricks Institute and Sarah Barclay School, while ISSA invited coaches from schools on Bushrod Island. They were St. Mary's Catholic School, New Era, Barclay Nyenfueh, Mark J. Richards and Joana Antoe.
As for Gardnersville, schools selected were St. Philips Ecumenical School, St. Michael Catholic School and Grace AG School, whereas Calvary Temple AG School and H.A. Gesner were selected from Somalia Drive.
ISSA named Nathan E. Gibson, JC Goodridge and Dominion Christian School as the Paynesville schools. Sinkor had Susan Berry, Haywood Mission, Independent Bethlehem and Sinkor AG, whereas Central Monrovia had Worldwide Mission, George & Logan and Gray D. Allison.
The President of ISSA, Mr. Joseph F. Willie stated that the course was a way of helping to make football grow in the country, thus asking coaches to impact the lessons learned to their students and players.
