President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has paid tribute to Ambassador Alan Doss for his immeasurable contribution towards setting Liberia on the path to national recovery.
The President spoke today in the township of Paynesville where she broke grounds for the construction of a peace park in honor of Ambassador Doss, former United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary General to Liberia. She commended the United Nations family for their resolve, noting that they put in their personal contributions into the project.
Speaking earlier, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General to Liberia, Ambassador Ellen Magerethe Loj, said Ambassador Doss played a critical role in building the political and social structures in Liberia after the lenghty civil conflict. She added that when constructed, the park will serve as a testament of the love between Ambasssador Doss and the people of Liberia. Madam Loj also commended the Johnson-Sirleaf Adminstration for recognizing the efforts of her predecessor.
Others speakers at the ground-breaking ceremony included Internal Affairs Minister Ambulai Johnson and Paynesville City Mayor, Mr. J.C.N. Howard. Minister Johnson said the peace park to be constructed serves as a manifestation of the work done by Ambassador Doss during his tenure as head of UNMIL. For his part, Mayor Howard expressed the Paynesville township's pride at the hosting the park.
Ambassador Alan Doss was apppinted United Nations Special Representaive to Liberia by former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan during the National Transitional Government of Liberia led by Charles Gyude Bryant. He is currently United Nations Special Representative of the Secetary General to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
