Angola: Defence Minister Visits South Africa

9 April 2008

Luanda — Angolan Defence minister, Kundi Paihama, left Luanda on Wednesday for South Africa for a three-day official visit, at the invitation of his local counterpart, Mosiuoa Lekota.

Addressing Angop shortly before his departure, Kundy Paihama said that he will analyse with South African officials issues of bilateral interest, as part of existing relations in the defence field.

The Angolan minister added that they will also discuss matters related to the accord signed by the two institutions in 2004, in Cape Town, without mentioning further details.

Meanwhile, the South African Defence minister, Gerard Patrick Mosiuoa Lekota, visited Angola, for the first time, in September 2007. On the occasion, he handed over the operational maps and plans of possible mine fields in the Angolan territory, planted by the then armed forces of Apartheid regime.

Apart from cooperating in the three branches of the Armed Forces, namely, Army, Navy and Air force, Angola and South Africa share the experience in the domains of Education, Health, Oil, Energy and Water and Telecommunications.
