Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) title hopes were slightly dented after a 2-all stalemate against a rejuvenated Tigers in a rain soaked MTC Namibia Premier League match at the Khomasdal Stadium in Windhoek last night.
The match had two distinct halves with Tigers on top in the first half, while the Germans stepped up a gear in the second stanza to set up a thrilling finish to an otherwise entertaining match played in a front of a small crowd.
The visitors' inspirational midfielder and newly capped Brave Warriors' midfielder Marco van Wyk tested Fox Nambundunga in the Tigers goal with a rasping long-range volley, but the agile keeper showed fine reflexes to gather the goal-bound shot.
With 17-minutes gone on the clock, Tigers' broke the deadlock via the educated boot of Neville Nanub.
The enterprising midfielder latched onto Knowledge Ipinge's cleverly executed delivery into the SKW danger zone and sneaked in front of a hesitant Bobby Kaapama before lobbying the ball over the advancing Heribert Kapeng.
The Germans were almost back on level terms but Nambundunga did well to block Elias "Barnes" Lisako's close range shot.
SKW's prodigal son Patrick Jagger proved quite a handful with some deft touches and had the Tigers rearguard working overtime but the home team's Tanzanian import Lubingisa Lubingisa stood firm and marshalled the usually fragile Tigers defence with great authority.
Hard tackling SKW holding midfielder Ralf Ellinger became the first player on the night to find his way into referee Ananias Kangandi's crime sheet for dissent as the first half wore on.
The Germans piled on the pressure and skipper Arend von Stryk came tantalisingly close with a good header but Nambundunga was well positioned to avert the danger.
Lisako put in some telling crosses from the right wing but the chances went begging as von Stryk struggled with his first touch.
The hosts missed a good chance of increasing their slender lead when the usually deadly finisher Tangenu Shipahu rattled the side netting with the net at his mercy after Nanub split a static SKW defence with a clever through ball.
Jacky Stephanus brought the teams on level terms 16 minutes into the second half, somehow against the run of play - capitalizing on a misunderstanding between Lubingisa and Nambundunga.
The goal seemed to ignite the Germans who started attacking with more purpose and were soon rewarded after a moment of genius by Jagger.
The former Orlando Pirates midfielder exchanged some neat passes with a number of team mates before getting to the end of Marco van Wyk's cross to give SKW the lead for the first time in the match with a cracking shot from an acute angle in the 70th minute.

However, the visitors' celebrations were short lived as Tigers replied immediately after the restart through substitute Fanie Mateus. And that's how it remained: Tigers 2 - 2 SKW.
The result moved SKW within touching distance of log leaders Ramblers - trailing the Tunchel Street Boys by a single point but the Pionierspark-based could stretch their lead further when they play African Stars in a do-or-die clash at the Khomasdal Stadium tomorrow.
Tigers have in the meantime leapfrogged Stars into 7th place on the MTC Namibia Premiership log standings, but the Reds have two games in hand over their Katutura rivals.
