Southwest Province will host the finals of FENASCO "A" Games 2009, declared Minister Louis Bapes Bapes during the closure of the 2008 FENASCO "A" Games in Bafoussam.

The five-day sporting event of secondary school students representing the 10 provinces had 8 different disciplines, football, handball, volley, basketball, table tennis, judo gymnastics and athletics.

The highly competitive carnival ended with the Centre Province dominating the chart just like last year with seventeen gold, seven silver and six bronze medals, making a total of 30 medals. The Northwest followed with five gold, three silver and four bronze medals, while the Littoral Province came 3rd with 11 medals. The host, West Province, occupied the 5th position whereas the next host, Southwest tailed the table.

East Province received the fair play trophy, while the head of the 2008 Organising Committee, Governor, Pascal Mani, received a medal for the best athlete.

However, Louis Bapes Bapes hailed the various delegations for participating actively in the competition.

After the Minister closed the event, athletes of the Centre Province all protested, by sitting on the ground, the shabby treatment given them by the organisers.Their grievances comprised the lack of participation dues and the meagre incentives of FCFA 10.000 given for gold medals.

They also complained of poor feeding that caused some students to suffer from diarrhoea and the lack of adequate medical care for those who sustained injuries.
