Liberia: Who Wants to Undermine Artists' Show?

10 April 2008

Monrovia — Cultural Ambassador, Juli Endee says the musical concert by local musical artists and the Crusader for Peace set to take place on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, would go ahead as scheduled contrary to wide spread information that the concert has been suspended.

The local Liberian artists and the Liberian Crusader for Peace under the leadership of Ambassador Endee, has organized the show with the aim that they would raise awareness and sensitize the public on the effect of the deadly HIV/AIDS, Violence Against Women as well as how small arms proliferation can be controlled across the country.

The musical concert also coincide with the same date that Senegalese Musical Star, Akon, is expected to perform in Monrovia, something which has reportedly sparked tension between the organizers of the two shows.

Speaking to the press yesterday at the Crusader for Peace Village in Monrovia on reports that the local musical artists show has been suspended, Ambassador Endee alleged that some invincible hands were trying to undermine the show of the local artists and the women of Liberia planned for Tuesday.

She said the show, would go on as planned at the ATS contrary to information that it has been suspended.

Ambassador Endee said they obtained a receipt from the local football house to use the ATS on the day of the show and up to the time she was speaking, they were yet to receive any official communication from the local Football Association relative to any change in the usage of the ATS.

"I want to say to the fans and women and all of those we have mobilized and those that have been advocating that the show would go ahead," she said with confidence.

She stated further that all was on course for the show as they have already engaged the artists that would perform as well as intensifying the mass sensitization efforts to educate the public, something, which according to her, would continue until the 15 of April and be later extended to the 20th.

Madam Endee threatened to institute a lawsuit against the local football house should it fail to renege on its decision to release the stadium to them for the show, stressing that even if this happens, they would find another venue. She extended thanks to all those that have assisted them thus far including Lone Star Cell and UNDP to make the show a success.
