THE Namibia National Teachers' Union (Nantu) has given the Office of the Prime Minister a deadline of April 18 to respond to a new salary structure proposal at the four colleges of education in Windhoek, Rundu, Katima Mulilo and Ongwediva.

The salary issue was referred to the Office of the Prime Minister after lecturers at the colleges threatened industrial action last month.

Lecturers at the four colleges held protests demanding new salary structures which the Government apparently said could only be approved in next year's National Budget.

The lecturers said their demands date back to 2003 and they could not understand why their grievances were never dealt with.
