About 500 female athletes will be taking part in the race.

The second edition of the international women race of Cameroon will take place next Sunday, 13 April, 2008. The race organised by the Cameroonian association of sports and development, will be ran over a 10-kilometres distances in conformity with the rules of the International Association of Athletics Federations. The departure and arrival points shall be at the esplanade of the Yaounde city hall.

The race will take place in several categories including the youth category for athletes between 15 and 20 years of age, the professional category for athletes between 21 and 35 and the veteran category for athletes above the age of 36. Though some countries in the African had announced their participation, the president of the organising committee of the race, Thobi Louisette Renée, said she was yet to receive the confirmation from these countries about their participation. Meanwhile over 500 athletes drawn from all over the country have so far confirmed their participation in the race. The matron of the event is the Moroccan minister of sports who is yet to arrive in Yaounde. However, the president of the organising committee said she had already sent her keynote address. Whereas Maryse Ewanje-Epée, a veteran journalist, has been designated as the main figure of the event. Prizes to be awarded to winners in the different categories amount to some CFA 5.6 million.

It would be recalled that Cameroon's Ngono Etoundi came first in the professional category, in the pioneer edition of the race last year. She was followed by Yilegwo Dorette and Kenfack Josiane, in the second and third positions respectively. In the youth category, Ngoran Immaculate of the Kumbo-based Milano Sports Academy had an easy walk over the other competitors coming first. She was closely followed by Tainken Azambo Honorine and Ayangma Nadine Nadege. Meanwhile the queen of the mountain, Sarah Etonge, came first, in the veteran category, Nfor Eunice, second and Teyissakbe Rebecca came third. However the major attraction of the race was in the popular category which included women above 36 years and who are not professional runners. The public cheered and burst out in laughter each time an old or very plump lady passed by. A case in point is that of one Marie Christine of the Ministry of External Relations who arrived at the finishing line after the end of the race under heavy escort from the mobile van and encouragement from the public.
