Eritrea: Central Region Students Week Underway

Central Region Students Week opened on April 8 at Cinema Odeon here in the capital under the theme "Education for All-round Development."
The event is aimed at creating favorable ground for students to share experience and thereby upgrade their creativity and research skills. Different dramas and revolutionary songs highlighting the history of the Revolution School, the struggle for independence and the challenges met featured on the occasion.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the head the branch office of the Ministry of Education in the region, Mr. Girmai Gebrehiwet, stressed the paramount importance of education in nurturing productive citizens and building a prosperous nation. He further indicated that positive changes are being witnessed in the learning capacity of students thanks to improvement in the curriculum. Mr. Girmai further called on teachers, parents and all institutions to enhance their participation in efforts to promote the development of the education sector.
In the course of the 4-day Students Week, seminars on different topics including, teachers and work ethics, education and nationalism and role of female teachers, among others would be conducted. In addition, debating in the English language, arts and general knowledge contests, sports competitions, and other programs would be staged. Meanwhile, the Minister of Education, Mr. Semere Russom, yesterday opened an education corner and arts exhibition at the Barka Secondary School.
Similarly, students festival has been conducted in Adi-Quala sub-zone that was jointly organized the NUEYS and the Ministry of Education branch office in the sub-zone. The festival highlights general knowledge contests, debating, different fashion shows, sports competition and the like. Youths who followed a three-month course on basic computer application, first-aid and drama also graduated on the occasion, according to reports.
