Eritrea: Burn Center in Halibet Hospital Inaugurated

A Burn Center at Halibet Hospital constructed jointly by the Ministry of Health and the German Hammer Forum Association at a cost of 10 million Nakfa was inaugurated yesterday.

The director of national referral hospitals, Dr. Habteab Mehari, pointed out that the 20-room center is equipped with surgery room, guests hall and offices as well as a facility that could accommodate 17 patients at a given time.

The Administrator of the Central region, Mr. Tewelde Kelati, who inaugurated the center pointed out that encouraging achievements are being registered in the health sector as a result of the Government's vigorous endeavors to promote equitable health service in all parts of the country. The Administrator expressed appreciation to all the parties and humanitarian organizations that made due contribution in the construction of the center.

Dr. Peter Schwidtal, member of the Board of Directors of Hammer Forum and the head of mission for Eritrea, on his part stated that the Eritrean people have unique history as they achieved independence after bitter struggle. He added that the Association is exerting relentless efforts focusing on child welfare.

Noting that relations between the Ministry of Health and Hummer Forum dates back to the year 1995, Dr. Peter indicated that so far the Association has offered medical treatment to 310 Eritrean children by enabling them to receive treatment in Germany. It also provided medical service to more than 4,000 children inside the country. Dr. Peter added that such service would continue.
