Uganda: Monitor's Abeja Guns for Chairman's Cup

Kampala — MONITOR Publications Limited Company Secretary Anne Abeja Muhwezi is among the hot favourites to walk away with top accolades when the MTN-sponsored Chairman's Cup comes to a close tomorrow.

Abeja sailed through the badminton tournament, beating Edith Karashani in the quarterfinals, Jolly Byarugaba in the semifinals and was by press time tussling it out with Suzanne Owoka Oryada in the finals.

Owoka defeated Rosette Kebba in the semis on Wednesday night at Kampala Club. Abeja was also still on course in the doubles on top of earning a bye to the semifinals of the tennis mixed doubles.

In the men's badminton singles, Hodge Ssemakula eased past Andrew Byarugaba in two straight sets 15-4, 15-2 while Oscar Kambona posted an easy win 15-4, 15-4 over Brian Muhumuza.

The finals are due tomorrow evening.
