Zimbabwe: Adultery Triggers $400bn Lawsuit

11 April 2008

Harare — A Harare woman has filed a $400 billion adultery suit against her young sister whom she accuses of snatching away her husband.

Mrs Feluna Munyepa (nee Ncube), who is being represented by Harare lawyer Mr Maxwell Mavhunga of Mavhunga and Sigauke Legal Practitioners, is suing her young sister, Merjury Ncube, for damages suffered as a result of the alleged adulterous affair. Apparently Ncube and her brother-in-law Mr Kennedy Munyepa now have a child out of the relationship that dates back to 2001. In her affidavit, Mrs Munyepa said she married Mr Munyepa on September 30 1998, which marriage still subsists and was staying with Ms Ncube in 2001 when the relationship began.

According to the papers, Ms Ncube and Mr Munyepa had an affair behind Mrs Munyepa's back and a child was conceived in 2004. It is alleged the two continued with the "adulterous relationship" resulting in Mrs Munyepa losing love and affection for her husband. Mrs Munyepa is claiming $200 billion as compensation for the emotional pain she suffered and another $200 billion for loss of comfort and services she used to get from her husband.

She further claims payment of costs of the suit and interest at the prescribed rate from the date of judgment to the date of full payment. In one of the correspondences from Ms Ncube to Mrs Munyepa's lawyers before the case was taken to court, it was argued that the said relationship had Mrs Munyepa's blessing.

Ms Ncube said she was not comfortable discussing such issues that may disparage the family before strangers.
