Angola: Parliament Speaker Attends IPU Meeting in South Africa

Luanda — Angola's National Assembly (Parliament) speaker, Roberto de Almeida, is travelling Friday to South Africa, to attend the 118th ordinary session of the Interparliamentary Union (IPU) at weekend, a press note states.

The note does not add details of the meeting. Founded in 1889 by Britain William Cremer and the French Fréderic Passy it has as its goal to solve conflicts through international experts. According to its statutes, all national parliaments that intend to be an IPU member are required to get constituted in national groups to participate in the two annual plenary assemblies and other events promoted by the institution.

The organisation works mainly in the area of representative democracy, peace and international security, sustainable development, human rights, gender equality, international trade, education, science and culture.
