The Northwest Fons' spokesperson, Ntumfor Barrister Nico Halle, alongside the General Managers of Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority, AACC, and Pamol, Ignatius Sama Juma and Obi Okpun Wanobi Osang recently received awards for transparency.

The maiden awards on transparency by The Nation Magazine came at a time when former government Ministers are being arrested and tried for corruption.

The weekend occasion that took place at the Fakoship Plaza, Buea, brought together journalists from the public and private media, including Southwest Communication Delegate, Ivo Makoge Nkong, a member of the National Communication Council, NCC, Charley Ndi Chia, and concerned members of the public.

Ntumfor Halle was recognised for the role he played during the July 22, 2007 twin elections as a representative of the National Elections Observatory, NEO. He was credited for having managed the elections transparently and averted a situation of crisis in the Northwest, before, during and after the electoral process.

On their part, the GMs of Pamol and the Cameroon Civil Aviation Authority were rewarded for the scrupulous and transparent running of their enterprises during the year gone by.

Before his recent award, Ntumfor Halle has been awarded severally for his crusade for peace and justice in the country.

Presenting a talk on Transparency at the ceremony, he said transparency creates an everyday participation in the nation's socio-cultural, economic and political growth by the media. "For transparency to be strengthened in Cameroon there should exist meaningful partnership between the State, the private sector, the civil society and the press."

However, he bemoaned the fact that though Cameroon is a very rich nation, it is plagued by poverty, unemployment, underdevelopment, HIV/AIDS, crime wave, bribery and corruption, human rights abuse etc.

Receiving the award on behalf of her company, the Communication officer of CCAA, Mireille Ngalabe, said it would spur the GM and the staff of the company to work harder. Ace CRTV journalist, Becky Ndive, who moderated the occasion, said the laureates were selected by a credible cream of jury.
