Institutional communication is little known by many whereas communicators working in corporations play an important role in the development of these structures. It is for this reason that a three-day seminar on the training of Institutional Communicators opened in Yaounde yesterday.

The workshop, which is the first ever is organised by the Network of Francophone Professionals of Intuitional Communication (NEFPROCOM), under the patronage of the Ministry of Communication. Participants from all 152 countries on the continent are taking part in the workshop. The workshop is organised under the theme "Institutional communication and development". The objectives of the workshop are to revalorise institutional communication, promote national sections of the REFPROCOM in public and private institutions and create a platform of reflection and exchange on the importance of institutional communication. The Network of Francophone Professionals of Industrial Communication is in gestation since the Lome conference of francophone press (UPF) and officially created in Yamoussoukro in 2007.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Executive Secretary of NEFPROCOM, Jean Claude Noubissi said institutional communication goes beyond simple journalism. It is essentially and exclusively at the service of the manager, institution and the image of the enterprise. "It is an affair of specialists". For his part, the Director of Public Communication in the Ministry of Communication, Ebona Nyetam said, the theme of the seminar is in line with the policy of New Deal Communication initiated by the Minister of Communication. He called on the journalists to valorise their profession and to avoid short comings hampering journalist associations. The director expressed hope that the outcome of the meeting will in future make the NEFPROCOM an association of reference in the sector of institutional communication. The workshop ends on Saturday.
