Cape Town — Angola's National Assembly (Parliament), Roberto de Almeida, is since Friday evening in Cape Town, South Africa, to attend the 118th ordinary session of the Interparliamentary Union (UIP), set for April 13-18 this year.
Issues related to the reduction of poverty, political, economic and social situation in the world will top the 118th ordinary session of the Inter-parliamentary Union (IPU), said Friday here the Angolan Parliament speaker, Roberto de Almeida.
The IPU was founded in 1889, by the initiative of English William Cremer and of French Frédéric Passy, whose goal was to create an organisation focussed on resolution of conflicts, through international mediation.
According to the status, every national parliament wanting to become IPU members should join National Groups, in order to participate in the two annually plenary assemblies and in other events promoted by the institutions.
The organisation operates preferably in the areas of representative democracy, international peace and security, sustainable development, human rights, gender equality, international trade and education, science and culture.
