Kalavango volleyball club treasurer Gabotswelele 'Puni' Mosanana will be laid to rest in Kanye tomorrow.

She was one of the five people who died when the Ford Laser they were travelling in collided with a Toyota 4X4 vehicle at Monogeng Lands 10km from Artesia last weekend. The 39-year-old Mosanana died with her son, two cousins and another female.

Mosanana started playing volleyball in the 1980s when she was a student at St Joseph's College. Volleyball colleagues remember her as a jovial, humble and hard working person. Her Kalavango club-mate, Patricia Rametsana says Mosanana was an ever-smiling person. Rametsana will always remember how her departed friend cried after her side lost in a final in 1990. She said Mosanana was a very committed player who always inspired her teammates. "She was the pillar of the team. We will miss her," Rametsana said.

Kalavango women team coach, Lesedi Hule described Mosanana as a jolly and easily accessible person who was always happy even in the midst of problems. He said Mosanana started playing for Kalavango in 1987 when she was still a student. She said she was a committed person both as a player and an administrator. Mosanana played for the national team from the 1980s until the mid 1990s.

Kalavango chairperson, Daniel Molaodi will remember Mosanana as a disciplined player and administrator. Molaodi said Mosanana stood tall even when the going seemed tough. "She was a reliable person that you could rely on for advice," he said. He added that Mosanana has left a very huge gap in the Kalavango family. He described her as one of the best setters Kalavango has ever produced.

Botswana Volleyball Federation (BVF) official, Mission Mereyotlhe said he met Mosanana at St Joseph's College in 1983 where they were both students. She described Mosanana as a jolly person and a straight talker who expressed her dissatisfaction without fear or favour. "She contributed a lot to volleyball from the time she was a player to when she became an administrator," Mereyotlhe said. He added that Mosanana was one of the few women of his generation still active in volleyball. She is survived by her husband and two children.
