Namibia: Country Club And Charity Join Hands

14 April 2008

Windhoek — The Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino has made Hope Village one of its main charities over the last couple of years.

From this partnership, approximately N$100000 was collected during golf days in 2006 and 2007 for the procurement of much needed bed-sheets, curtains, pillows and duvets that were handed over to Hope Village.

Hope Village had just completed its first house and needed to furnish it in order to make it hospitable for the first children that entered the home at the beginning of March this year.

"Hope is what keeps people going - be it the hope of a new job; the hope of a nice gift; the hope of better health or hope of good rains. That is why the name Hope Village is so applicable as this will be a centre of hopes and dreams for people whose world is turned upside down, either because they might be dying or because they realize that their loved ones are busy dying," said Tony Boucher, the General Manager of the Windhoek Country Club Resort and Casino at the recent opening of the first house at Hope Village.

Marietjie de Klerk, a pastor of the Emmanuel Church and founder of Hope Village, said at the handover: "I want to give heartfelt thanks for all the linen and beds received from the Country Club. The linen fits beautifully with the colours of the house.

"It is amazing. I cannot wait to move my first children into this house, which is probably going to be the first safe haven that some of them will have in their young lives. Thank you once again to the Country Club for making this house so beautiful and therefore a pleasure to stay in."

Boucher added that the Country Club is currently busy with refurbishing as it was time for a new look and feel. "This did not however mean that the sheets, pillows, duvets beds and curtains were old, but due to the complete refurbishment, all items were replaced and we were only too happy to be able to give them to a good cause.

"We know that they are much needed at Hope Village and that they will be appreciated to the utmost. We have pledged our continual support to Hope Village with much needed items, including toiletries and still some other furnishings to come."
