Ogun — Ogun State Government has ordered the immediate closure of two private secondary schools for alleged examination malpractice.
Prof. Segun Awonusi, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) weekend in Abeokuta. He said that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) had also withdrawn its recognition for the two schools due to poor facilities and examination malpractice. Awonusi, who refused to disclose the identities of the two schools, simply said that they were located in Ota and Ado-Odo/Ota local government areas.
"They are private schools in Ota. They lack basic teaching facilities like laboratories and conducive classrooms, while most of their structures are just like cattle sheds. "We have, therefore, ordered the closure of the schools for three years, in the first instance, and thereafter, if they are able to put in place all the necessary facilities, they can apply for re-registration," he said.
Awonusi, however, warned that the state government would not tolerate any form of malpractice in its educational system. "Ogun State Government particularly has a zero-tolerance for examination malpractice," he said.
