Uganda: Lovers Steal From Lodge

Kampala — A man and his lover recently survived lynching at one of Mukono's popular lodges, after they were caught stealing a mattress and a pair of bed sheets. Kayiwa and Hanifa had spent the previous night at the lodge, where they booked a room at a cost of sh10,000.

Early in the morning, Mukiibi, one of the workers at the lodge, saw the two lovebirds escaping from the lodge through the back gate. They were carrying a mattress and bed sheets. Mukiibi raised an alarm, which forced Kayiwa and Hanifa to drop the items and run. Unfortunately, they run into boda boda cyclists parked outside the lodge.

The cyclists who were not even aware of the reason the two were running, jumped at the opportunity to lynch them, claiming that they had been committing adultery. They claimed that Hanifa is a wife to one of their colleagues, one Muwanga.

They caught Kayiwa and threatened to burn him for playing with other people's wives. A concerned resident informed Police, who came in to rescue Kayiwa. They found him beaten with a heap of tyres nearby. The Police took the lovers for questioning.
