Unam suffered their first defeat of the season when they lost 3-1 to DTS in an Omina Supplies Men's Premier League Indoor Hockey match on Saturday evening.

Unam had however already won the league the previous weekend and turned up with a depleted team for their final match against DTS. At the start of the match they only had four players, without a goalie, to DTS's six, and DTS made use of their advantage to take a 2-0 lead through a brace by Wayne van der Linde. Unam managed to pull a goal back through Siabonga Martins, but although Unam keeper Stanley Witbooi joined the team just before half-time, the odds were too great and Emile Visser sealed DTS's victory with their third goal. The victory puts DTS second on the log, but their coach Randy Slabbert was not too happy with the circumstances. "We would have preferred to beat a full Unam team," he said. Johan Weyhe, the chairman of the umpiring committee, was not impressed with Unam's poor turnout, saying that it was a sign of a lack of discipline.

"They did not set a good example. Unam's coach Erwin Handura was heard saying that they did not need to field a full team because they had already won the league, but it's not about that. It's about the pride of representing your team and setting a good example as the league champions. I am now concerned that this slack attitude will spill over to the field league and national competitions later in the year," he said. In another Men's Premier League match on Saturday evening, Windhoek Old Boys and Wanderers played to a 4-all draw. Unam have already won the league with 28 points, followed by DTS on 16 and Windhoek Old Boys on 12 points.

The Women's Premier League title will only be decided next weekend when Unam take on WOB in the final match of the season. On Friday night Unam beat DTS 1-0 through a goal by Gisela Hiskia, while WOB beat Wanderers 3-1 on Saturday. WOB now lead the log on 18 points but can still be overtaken by Unam who are on 16 points with a game in hand.
