André Jules Tsala alias "Papaye", 26, and Mbessa Ambassa, 29, have been taken to court after being accused of assaulting several people (mostly women) in taxis. Both men, who belong to separate bunch of suspected criminals, were tracked down recently by the 15th Sub-Divisional Public Security Charge Office located at the Odza neighbourhood in Yaounde.
Investigations to track down Tsala began on March 24th, 2008 when he and his gang assaulted a woman at about 11:00p.m. The lady, who stopped Tsala's taxi, was heading for the Biyem-Assi neighbourhood from the Mvan bus station. Sources at the 15th District Police Station said when Tsala's victim entered the taxi, there were already three passengers amongst whom a woman. While they drove past all the travelling agencies along the Mvan neighbourhood, their victim was immediately surrendered around the double lane road leading out of Yaounde. The victim was ordered to bring out all the money she had (CFA 300,000) including her jewellery. When Tsala's victim was dropped somewhere around Texaco Ahala, she pleaded with another taxi driver who took her to the Police Post located at the Mvan junction. From there she was taken to the 15th District Police Station where she laid her complaint. As Tsala and his gang went on in their usual activities, their second victim was able to retain the number of the taxi. With the taxi number, the Odza Police Unit opened investigations.
One morning the taxi was found around Mvan junction. When the driver was apprehended, he told policemen that he was not the person driving the taxi at the time of the crime. Through his declaration, Tsala was fished out. Mbessa Ambassa fell into police dragnet when he and his mate attempted to steal from a lady in a taxi driving from Ekounou to the "Kuwait-city" neighbourhood. When the taxi reached Auberge Bleue located at the Odza neighbourhood, one of the passengers in the taxi ordered Augustine (the victim) to hand all what she had, as she turned to see who was speaking, the person sitting next to her began searching her bag. This resulted in a tussle which caused the driver to loss control of the vehicle. As the population intervened, sources at the 15th District Police Station say one of the eye witnesses called their attention to what was happening. Through the incident, the police was able to apprehend Mbessa and his mates.
