interview

Q&A with His Grace, Archbishop, Cornelius Fontem Esua.

What message did the Archbishop take to Pilgrims at the Jangma Mater Redemtoris Shrine this time?

The theme of our Pilgrimage was Reconciliation. We wanted everybody who participated at the pilgrimage to retire home reconciled with God and being at peace with God, and especially with one another in society and Christian communities. The times require that we must make an effort to reconcile and make endeavours to live in peace. This year, a lot of people participated. I was impressed.

What does the Mater Redemptoris Shrine at Jangma represent to the Archdiocese of Bamenda?

It is a place that calls us to prayer and to conversion. It is our Lady, Mother of the Redeemer Shrine, Mother of Christ who died to save mankind. We are grateful to late Mr Mubang who started the Shrine. It is a wonderful gift to our Diocese. It helps us to deepen our spiritual lives.

Does a Pilgrimage guarantee salvation for Pilgrims?

I think that everybody who participated at the Pilgrimage came back closer to heaven. Or I should say that they came back closer to God and closer to one another.

And condemnation for those who did not participate?

We prayed for them and hope that next year they will be around.

Could you size up the state of the Archdiocese of Bamenda now?

The Archdiocese is doing well .If the participation at the Pilgrimage could be a yardstick then I should say that the Archdiocese has very fervent Christians or Christians who are determined to live their Christian lives very well.
