President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has welcomed the British government assistance of £2 million to support Liberia's health sector.

The Liberian leader made the statement last Friday at the Foreign Ministry when she met a Representative of the British Department for International Development (DFID), Desmond Curran.

Mr. Curran was accompanied to the Foreign Ministry by Health and Social Welfare Minister Dr. Walter Gwenigale.

According to an Executive Mansion release, the President recounted the fruitful talks she had with Prime Minister Gordon Brown during her recent visit to Great Britain, adding that he affirmed his government's support towards the country's national recovery.

She observed that if Liberia's goal of becoming a post-conflict success story is to be realized, such partnerships like the British-Liberia relations would be crucial.

For his part, Mr. Curran expressed his government's pleasure in joining Liberia's path towards national recovery.
