Liberia: Johnson-Sirleaf Supports SKD, ATS Shows

Monrovia — President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf says she supports the musical extravaganza that would be staged at the Samuel K. Doe (SKD) Sports stadium and the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS).

The President said Liberians have the right to decide which show they want to attend.

The Liberian leader made the clarification last week on State Radio, ELBS regarding controversy surrounding the forthcoming musical festivities at the ATS and SKD.

She urged Liberians to move about peacefully.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Liberia Crusaders for Peace, Culture Ambassador Julie Endee is commending President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf for the clarification she made last evening on State Radio, ELBC, regarding the forthcoming musical festivities.

Amb. Endee said the fact that President Sirleaf has categorically stated that at no time did she stop the Liberia Crusaders for Peace from holding their program at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium, is a clear indication that she is indeed a twin mother, who believes in the free enterprise system, wherein, competition is highly regarded.

She said the clarification by President Sirleaf which has now laid the controversial matter to rest, is a further manifestation of government's interest in using culture to promote the campaign against the proliferation of small arms, light weapons, sexual exploitation and HIV/AIDS control in Liberia.

Ambassador Endee is meanwhile calling on all musical and cultural artists to turn out massively next Tuesday, April 15, to participate in a parade throughout the principal streets of Monrovia, to be climaxed with a musical festival at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium in Monrovia.

The Culture Ambassador has at the same time reiterated that she has no interest in 'sabotaging' the forthcoming musical extravaganza organized by CELLCOM, as is being alleged.
