The Eritrean Ambassador to the UK, Mr. Tesfamichael Gerahtu, presented his credentials to President Mary McAleese of Ireland on April 10 as Eritrean Ambassador to that country.

In the presentation ceremony, the Ambassador conveyed a message of goodwill from President Isaias Afwerki and expressed the Eritrean government's wish to strengthen relations with Ireland.

Expressing the Irish government's readiness to develop the existing historical relations between Eritrea and Ireland, President Mary McAleese said that her government would do its level best to this end.

She further emphasized the need to explore possibilities for reinforcing cooperation and partnership between the two countries, especially in the domain of development cooperation. In this regard, the Irish leader noted the need for continued contacts.
