The national Under-20 soccer squad are scheduled to leave by road for Lesotho tomorrow to take part in the African Youth Championship qualifiers.

The Young Warriors, who are the regional Cosafa champions, play the first round, first leg tie on Sunday while the reverse fixture is in two weeks' time. Zimbabwe Under-20 team manager Bheki "Far" Ndlovu yesterday said they had now confirmed the squad's itinerary.

Ndlovu, who is also the treasurer at Premiership side Monomotapa, said coach Methembe Ndlovu had finalised his travelling side. Last week Methembe called up 32 players but the size of the squad has since been reduced. "Everything has gone well for us since we got into camp last week. "Some of the players had remained in camp while others were released for their clubs' league matches over the weekend.

"We expect those who were released to return today (yesterday) so that we continue with our preparations. "We are travelling by road, leaving Harare on Wednesday morning and hope to arrive in Maseru on Thursday," he said. The Young Warriors manager said the players were now focused on the game and had made the best out of their time in camp at Churchill High. "I think we have had one of the better camps with the Young Warriors so far. "I would like to thank Zifa and the chief executive (Henrietta) Rushwaya for seeing to it that the boys were well-catered for.

"Even the allowances had been arranged and it was just a splendid job by the chief executive officer," said Ndlovu. In the team leaving tomorrow, CAPS United's Tafadzwa Rusike and CAPS FC's Archiford Gutu are expected to provide the leading light. Nomadic Noel Soko, who has played for Blue Jets, Shooting Stars and Savannah FC in less than two seasons, is also part of the travelling team.

Skipper Ovidy Karuru is not part of the team. Karuru went to England earlier this year for trials with Premiership side Newcastle. He, however, recently returned home and featured in Masvingo United's 1-1 draw against Chapungu at Mucheke on Sunday. The Under-20 squad were knocked out 4-3 on aggregate by South Africa as they battled to qualify for the last edition of the Africa Youth Championships.

Zimbabwe last played Lesotho at Under-20 level in October 2004 with Phillip Mbofana as acting head coach. Then the Young Warriors were bidding for a place at the Benin 2005 finals. The Young Warriors were held to 0-0 draw at Rufaro before falling 3-0 in Maseru.
