Windhoek — The Namibian Under-17 football team took a giant step towards qualification for the African Youth Championship finals in Algeria next year.

The "Baby Warriors" saw off Lesotho by 5 goals without a reply in their first leg of the African Youth Cup qualifiers at the Sosotho Stadium in Maseru on Sunday.

Eslin "Lovers" Kamuhanga was the toast of the Namibians with a goal on either side of play - sandwiched by a goal apiece from Sam Kavezembi, Sylvester Ortmann and Mendu Tjongarero.

The visitors, playing on an artificial pitch for the first time, took a healthy lead before the changeover, after rattling the opposition's net on three occasions.

The result all but booked the Namibians a date with Zambia in the next round after running riot against their youthful counterparts from the Mountain Kingdom. The second leg will be played in Windhoek in a fortnight's time.
