An exhibition showcasing the country's hotels, travel agencies, and other tourism related business and offices is scheduled for first week of May this year with a view to promote domestic tourism, organizers said on Monday.

The unique exhibition at the Addis Ababa exhibition center from 2-4 May 2008 is organized in collaboration between the event organizers-The Res Promotion and Advertising Plc with Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

"Hotels, travel agencies, souvenir shops, all regional tourism and cultural heritage offices, the national theatre, national museum, hotel associations, tour association, artists will all be involved in the upcoming exhibition," Res promotion and advertising Manager , Amare Feleke told The Daily Monitor by phone.

The exhibition will be graced by the presence of the likes of Lemma Guya, and prominent athletes, according to Amare.

He said both the ministry and his advertising agency hope to organize similar event every year hoping the outcome would be very useful for the society as well as for the businesses.

Amare said it was pity that despite the fact that Ethiopia is the second country in Africa next to Egypt with eight cultural heritages registered by UNESCO, this has not been appreciated enough by Ethiopians themselves.

Amare said a lot of activities needed to be done to promote the country's tourist industry to the country's citizens.

"The main purpose of this exhibition is to promote our tourist sites for the community and increase the number of local visitor and also to create a good awareness about tourism," he said.

According to the manager, the exhibition will make women particularly beneficiary for women are engaging in cultural dresses business.
