Francistown

A night of crime in Nata has landed a thieving male trio before the Francistown Magistrate Court on two counts of burglary and two of theft.

The three, Edward Motsatsi, Zibane Mphinyane and Pusetso Gaerekwe, are said to have broken into one Abbas Ishaq Ali's residence, where they stole Ali's 1110 Nokia cellphone valued at P299-00.

They continued their night deeds when they broke into Semphete, a local bar, where they stole coins from the jukebox amounting to P517. They also helped themselves to three 340ml bottles of Amstel, seven Heinekens, 20 Peter Stuyvesant cigarette packs and coins amounting to P6.25. The total bar takings amounted to P969.75.

The three didn't have long to enjoy their ill-gotten gains as they were nabbed by the Nata police the next day on April 1st and have been in custody since. During their court appearance, they pleaded with the court for bail, giving their various reasons, however, both the unemployed Motsatsi and Gaerekwe's pleas were denied.

Thirty-one-year-old Mphinyane's emotional plea was more successful. "I am a student, doing my final practical exams soon. If I go to jail the school will be forced to stand by the rules and not allow me to do my finals, which would mean the end of my school days and educational future."

The conditions of the bail are that Mphinyane produces two witnesses that will sign to the bail, paying P1500 each, and that he shall be present at the court's request.
