The Tutume court this week had to postpone two cases because the Tutume Sub District and the North East District had failed to act accordingly to enable the trials to take place.

Twenty-three-year old Proud Khumalo left the courtroom a disappointed man as his trial had to be postponed because the Tutume Sub District had failed to furnish the police with the necessary documents that proved that some stolen items indeed belonged to them. The Prosecuting officer, Inspector Ramoseki, told the presiding magistrate, Milidzani Masie Moyo, that despite their countless meetings with the Sub District, they were not yet furnished with receipts nor any other proof that the stolen items belonged to them. The facts of the case are that between the 23rd and 24th September 2007, Khumalo entered a storeroom in the Tutume Sub District council and stole 72x1kg and 6x2.5kg of washing powder.

Five other accused persons who allegedly stole a Lister engine belonging to the North East District had their case postponed as the District had failed to come forward to identify the engine. Norman Tshepo, 23, Tumelo Mmutle, 22, Khumbulani Jacklas, 30, Mthokozini Ndlovu, 26, and another unidentified 25-year old are alleged to have stolen the engine worth P40 000 on the 10th of March 2008 at Botalaote village. The five accused persons are to appear for mention on the 28th April 2008.
