Liberia: Tubman College Re-Opening Process Begins

Monrovia — Massive renovation work has begun on the William V.S. Tubman College of Technology (WVSTCT) in Maryland County, the Interim administrator hasdisclosed.

The Technical College was ravaged as a result of 14 years of armed conflict the country.

However, the renovation exercise would lead to the possible re-opening of the institution.

Addressing a major news conference Monday, an Interim Administrator Thomas B. Collins told journalists that the long awaited renovation of the college is being undertaken from its budgetary appropriation provided by the Government of Liberia.

Although the interim administrator did not mention the money allocated by the government on which it is currently operating, but he noted that the rehabilitation work has begun with the renovation of the President's residence, a three-bed room staff house, and the administrative building, among others.

"We have begun the first in a series of major renovation work at the college which began with the administrative building, the President's residence, staff house, and we hope to undertake the renovation of other major buildings, and with continuous funding from the government, we hope to bring the college back to its pre-war status," The WVSTCT interim administrator stressed.

Besides the existing damaged structures earmarked for renovation, he also noted that additional structures would be constructed to accommodate the envisaged University in the County.

The interim administration was appointed in November last year to renovate the war-ravaged college which had provided quality technological education to several students before the outburst of the Liberian civil war.
