Windhoek

Staff from the Namibian Police Mortuary were called to the Gammams Water Care Works in Windhoek after the body of a newborn child was discovered among human waste being treated there.

Staff at the plant reported that they made the discovery at around 11h00 on Sunday.

It is unlikely that the person responsible for dumping the baby will ever be identified, officers on the scene said.

Staff at the plant said they reported an average of 13 such cases a month to the Police.

"You may not always notice when something like this comes through.

"But when we do, we always call in the police," one of them said.

Sergeant Obed Haraseb of the Windhoek Police Mortuary removed the remains of the child from the waste Sunday morning.
