The Speaker of the German Bundestag (parliament) is expected to arrive in Namibia today for a two-day working visit.

Speaker Norbert Lammert will meet with President Hifikepunye Pohamba and hold talks with officials and MPs at Parliament. He will also launch the publication 'Human Rights and the Rule of Law in Namibia' together with Chief Justice Peter Shivute tomorrow under the auspices of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, of which Lammert is the Vice Chairman.

He also has his own foundation, which supports needy Namibian students through bursaries at Tucsin. It is expected that some opposition MPs will use the opportunity at the National Assembly to hear from Lammert how far advanced the Bundestag debate on reparations for Namibian ethnic groups is. The Left party tabled a motion to that effect last year, which was debated for an hour, but it still awaiting adoption.
