Windhoek — POLICE officers in the Karas Region are complaining about alleged double standards in the handling of misconduct charges against officers.
They also accused Karas Regional Commander, Josephat Abel, of being an autocratic leader.
The officers called for an investigation into their complaints by the Anti-Corruption Commission, and for the transfer of all commissioned officers stationed at the Karas Police headquarters at Keetmanshoop.
Regional Commander Abel rejected the allegations as unrealistic.
A Police officer, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed that no disciplinary charges had been investigated against some officers who had damaged Police vehicles in accidents.
He referred to an accident that had happened in December at either Noordoewer of Aussenkehr, involving a Police Citigolf assigned to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit.
The officer claimed no charges were registered with the Complaints and Discipline Unit against the commander of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit, who allegedly was driving the car at the time of the accident.
"It depends on who is involved before a case is opened," the officer claimed angrily.
Abel disagreed.
He said a case had been laid against the unit commander.
He urged the complainant to come forward with evidence to prove his allegations.
