Monrovia — Residents of District#1, Montserrado County have begun the construction of two bridges and bathroom facilities in the Newport, Mechlin and Randall Streets communities.

Speaking at the launch of the projects recently in Monrovia, the Chairman of the District Development Council (DDC), Rev. James Lloyd said the construction of the projects came as a result of the residents' choice.

According to him, funds being used to undertake the projects were part of the county development fund allotted in the 2007/08 national budget.

He said the construction of the two bridges and bathroom facilities valued more than US$15,000.

Rev. Lloyd said the construction of the bridges were important to residents of the community because it would link Mamba Point to Newport Street.

He admonished the residents to cooperate with the contractors adding "these facilities are being constructed for our own good therefore; we have to support the projects."

Rev. Lloyd lauded District#1 Representative Alomiza Ennos-Barr for her support to the projects.

For her part, Rep. Barr said the construction of the bridges would bring relief to residents of the community who find it difficult to commute especially during the rainy season.

She called on residents of the community to maintain the facilities for their own good.

Rep. Barr promised to ensure that other projects are undertaken in other communities of the district.
