Liberia: Four Tipped for UL Presidency

Four persons are said to be earmarked to steer the affairs of the University of Liberia following the appointment of UL President Dr. Al-Hassan Conteh as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.

The NEWS has learnt that one of the four prominent names that have surfaced for the UL Presidency is Dr. Emmet Dennis who currently serves as a member of the UL Board.

Dennis received his Bachelor's degree from Cuttington University and holds a Master's from Indiana University, USA, in Invertebrate Zoology and a Doctorate in Parasitology from the University of Connecticut.

Within the last 10 years, Dennis has served as Dean of Rutgers University College and for five of those years, he was vice president for student affairs at the university, and has also been working with the Ministry of Education on the organization of higher education.

Agriculture Minister Dr. J. Chris Toe is also among those tipped for the UL presidency. He is a former President at Strayer University. Dr. James Teah Tarpeh, former Vice President at the University is likely to get the job, sources hinted.

The NEWS has also learned that Dr. Dominic Tarpeh, also former Vice President at the University of Liberia is favored by the UL Board for the position.

Tarpeh has also served as the head of Administration and Finance and Acting Deputy Secretary-General for the African Universities Association.
