President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has submitted a draft supplemental Budget for Fiscal Year, 2007/08 to the National Legislature for its considerations and approval. The supplemental Budget is in the amount of US$10 million.
According to the Budget statement which was submitted to the Liberian Senate, the US$10 million supplemental budget compromises a targeted donor component of US$5,646,340 and non-donor component of US$4, 353660.
The donor component according to the Liberian leader comes from US$4 million from the World Bank and US$1,646,340 from the government of France. Of the non-donor component, US$1,999,138 will be driven from projected revenue surplus from Fiscal Year, 2007/08.
According to the budget statement, US$600,000 is injected as remittance from the National Oil Company of Liberia, US$994,522 from the ArcelorMittal Community Development Fund, US$400,000 from spectrum fees from the GSM Companies and US$360,000 from the Robert L. Johnson Groups of Companies.
President Johnson-Sirleaf then added that this segment of the supplemental budget has been allocated to programs and activities that the Executive Branch of government considers crucial to the realization of some significant national policy priorities and that cannot be deferred to the ensuing Fiscal Year 2008/09 Budget.
In the Supplemental budget, education will reap US$1,420,805, health US$1,435,000; Liberia Telecommunications Corporation US$400,000; Monrovia Transit Authority (MTA) US$100,000; Phebe Hospital US$150,000.
Other key institutions to benefit are the Forestry Development Authority (FDA), Civil Service Agency, LWSC, the University of Liberia (UL) US$100,000, among others.
In more legislative news, the House of Representatives has cited Information Minister Dr. Laurence K. Bropleh to give account of the US$200,000 allocated for the construction of the Kendeja High School.
The Minister is to also provide information on the US$200.000 reportedly provided by the government for the relocation of residents of Kendeja.
